ACE Hardware - ...........don't laugh. I matched the old with a new one from there. I had to drill and tap the old post to install it, but it works just fine. Much better than the old, worn one.
Has anyone found a source (besides the dealer) for this part? I've never found one in good shape at a junk yard.
Tom,
Sometime back there was a post that had the link to a source for this part. It is a Ford dealer in Oregon or Washington. Real reasonable prices. I ordered one from them at the time, but can't recall where/who it was.
Maybe the author will see this and post the link again.
I read where you did that a while back. I wondered how well it held up. You don't remember any of the details on the part do you?
Its been several years of use now and it rolls back and forth almost effortlessly-just oiled the rollers yesterday.
The bearing was just a standard steel, sealed, ball bearing, with perhaps a 5/16" bore and maybe 3/8" wide. Just make sure it is at least the same height or even a tad higher than the worn one, else your door will contiue to drag on the rubber door seal/scuff plate.
I have a '91 and on those years the entire lower arm w/bearing had to be replaced as the bearing is riveted on. I removed the arm, drilled out the rivet (a knurled affair, preventing just twisting it out) and then tapped the hole for a new shoulder bolt. I used some permanent threadlocker on the bolt (sleeve retainer) with no problems to date. Since the original used a nylon roller and the replacement was all steel I worried about excessive noise but this has not been an issue at all. I cannot tell any difference.
