Dash setup

Whats everyone doing for their gauges and switches and stuff?

I have a couple ideas for my stuff, but I'd like to see what everyone else is doing. Even better if its a 73-79.

Terrible picture or gauges, but I have two switches just to the right of the ash try for lights front and rear, and to the right of them are the three little gauges mounted under the dash with oil pressure, temp, and volt.

Got the tach on the steering colum.

Without mounting them dirrectly on the dash leaving holes everywhere, that's the best places I could think of.
IF I take all of them off, there will be no visible signs they were there.

I'm thinking about putting all of my switches where the radio would go. I have the air pressure gauge and switch where the drive side air vent would be if it had air any more. I'm putting one of those overhead radio console things in from bronco grave yard.

I thought the stock gauges were pretty good on these years, are the mechanical ones needed or just for extra insurance?

edit: oh yeah, my tach is on the column too

Noooooo. The stock gauges suck the big one.
Mechanical gauges are a must for oil pressure. Temp is another one I think is needed.

My truck is an 88. I have a 3 pod a pillar gauge set up from JC whitney. IMHO it is the best mod that I have done. I have oil press, temp, and amp.

Another cool mod that I have done to my truck is mounted my winch controlls in the dash. It was simple I have my hot wire going to a switched power source to a push pull switch. 12 volt from push pull swithc to a 3 way toggle switch and 2 wires to the winch for direction. Now I only have to use the remote if I am doing something outsid3e of the truck. Besides most of the time you are using it to winch yourself out you have the remote ran in the cab anyway.

I took an old aluminum toolbox i had and cut out part of the lid as my dash overlay. then I used holesaws to cut out for my gauges. i also trimmed slots for my CB and my CD player. you prolly cant see them but my switches are on the right side of the steering wheel at the top. they control: ignition on and off, elec fan, front line lock, and rear line lock. i tried to keep it super simple. sorry its not a late 70's truck dash.

Fishy,

I like the "custom" floor pans and super slick twin stick handles!

those floorpans offer some great visibility as to my front tire placement as well as what i am going to hit with my pinion/driveshaft.

the shifters are homemade.... i have a bunch of rebar laying around. i figured i might as well use it! also, i have pool ***** mounted on them now so i dont impale my self on them in a rough accident or something!

At least you didn't make a drag link out of rebar lol

I was thinking about lexan floor pans when my other body was rusting out, but this new one has brand new floors, do I'm not going to cut it up just yet.

All my gauges decided to quit working today, I think I'm going to do a complete new gauge cluster and pull the stock POS out. Get some sheet metal and punch out some holes, try to make it look clean. We'll see what happens.

Fishy,
I like what youve done but I was being sarcastic in a non-a s s hole kind of way.

I can deffinately see how they would help with visibility. Id get covered in mud and probably freeze my a$$ off if I had my truck done like that.

well thats why my bronco is far from being a mud truck! i got tired if spending more time cleaning the mud off my truck than the few hours i spent playing in it. and usually i was stuck pulling others out since i had a winch and was far bigger than most people.

God I hate cleaning the mud off, I've been trying to avoid it, but its so much fun to hold the pedal to the floor through a big mud hole..

do you guys have any brand preference on gauges?
