Im new and need help please.

Well guys i am kinda new to the site. I have gathered alot of info from just reading your threads but never needed a reason to join untill now.

I have a 89 bronco 5.0L 4x4. I pulled a friend out of a corn feild today and when i got on the road i couldn't get it to shift at all. I have first and reverse but thats it. all i know is that it is a over drive transmission. i went out of 4 low to 2 high and everything including 4x4 was working. went to 2h and all i had was first and reverse. after i got it home FINALLY, i can't get it into 4 low. 4 high and 2 high works great in first and reverse. it won't shift into second 3rd or OD and the shifter won't go back to 4 low. any help is greatly appreciated. you guys have helped me fix so many minor things, this site is a blessing to the do it yourselfer.
thanks alot!

just trying to get you guys some more info on my bronco. It is an AOD tranny. the TV or TB cable (whatever it is) seems to be in good working order. the shift linkage isn't bent. tranny fluid levels are correct.

the transfer case isn't going into 4 low as i mentioned however, I know for a FACT that the 4x4 high is working. feels like i am hitting a rock wheni pull the 4x4 lever back. can't even get it to go into neutral.

is my transfer case still good and if so what trannys can i use this transfer case on? such as a thunder chicken transmission maybe?

sorry for all these questions but I know if anyone has the answer it is ford-trucks.com forum members. I would just buy a new B&M C6 if I wasn't workinf with such very limited funds. the way gas prices are i definately want an OD transmission if i can find/afford one.
thanks again
Dan

You need to be in park to put it into 4 lo. Take the dipstick out and let it drip onto
a clean paper towel, wipe it off, dip it into a fresh bottle of fluid and let the same
amount of fluid drip next to the old fluid(3-4"away) You should see the new fluid
spread out right away, while the old fluid is sitting there looking dark nasty and not
moving at all. Tranny fluid has to be able to spread like that to operate and lubricate
all the tiny passages etc. Drop the pan and replace the filter and fill it with fresh
D/M 3 and 2 or 3 bottles of mercon V fluid. You probably cooked youor fluid and I can
guarantee if you have bigger than stock tires your fluid was shot before you did pull
him out since larger tires are a special operating condition and require all fluids (trans
diffs, hub grease on front axle,, brake fluid) to be changed out more often though most
folks don't do it near as much as should!! I use a mity vac pump to pull a quart of trans
fluid out every motor oil change to keep the additives and fluid freshened up. You can
use the Mercon V to get the benefit of the newer additives and they help the TC alot
better then the old rated fluid but I wouldn't run it solely.
