Hey guys, just today I got my truck all buttoned up and it wouldnt crank over.
Here's the story from beginning to end:
Started working on the truck...well, a few months ago, left the batteries hooked up. I cranked it over once a couple months ago while I was doing something and it was fine. A little while later I disconnected the batteries because I had the doors open a lot and I was working on some wiring. While the batteries were disconnected, I was messing with the cables on the starter relay and I guess got a little overzealous tightening the post that the positive cable from the battery attaches to and I broke that side out of the relay (the plastic actually broke, the post was fine). I JBwelded that back together because it looked like the post just contacted an electrode inside so I thought I'd give it a try.
Anyway today I hooked everything back up, when I turn the key the glow plugs are cycling (voltage looks fine) and I can hear the relay kicking over but it won't crank. Tried jumping it off my car, still nothing. Am I gonna have to just buy a new relay or could I be looking at something else here?
apply 12 volts to the wire that goes to the starter relay to make sure that is your problem. If it turns over it could be the relay by the battery.
I had a similar problem this weekend and it ended up being the gear shift lever sensor. The truck thought it was in gear so it wouldn't start in P but it would in N. I just need to adjust it when I get the chance.
I've had to replace the clutch switch due to no turn over. Turn headlights on to a wall. Try starting truck. If they don't dim probably the clutch switch has gone bad or out of adjustment. It is located on the upper end of the clutch rod for foot pedal
