if IAC is diisconnected when you pull a plug engine speed drops, becouse 10 dgr ign. timimg correction is off. If nothing happenes and wire is OK try another ignition module.
When I run the self diagnostic there are 3 steps for EEC-VI and have noticed that in step 2, the timing step, engine will go through it's stored codes than will try and "bump up"; as if it were trying to advance it's own timing but instead of increasing it goes back to idle speed.
Yesterday I pulled the PCM wire harness out into the engine compartment to check & see if the shield that goes around the SPOUT wire was grounding out...-0- resistance. I'll have to wait before trying to unhook the IAC while engine is running tomorrow working outside & raining here in cow-country Ellington, Connecticut.
After working at this for over a week now I'm at the point now were confusion is taking over.
And this is a time when you are glad to be not employed.

Reason: more wording
I used to replace expencive electronic modules to find one bad connector.... Working with Mercedes I have many tested modles and I use to use them if I suggest module is bad....
My wife will be happy that I have to buy another part.
We bought so far: PCM, EVR;was shorted out, now this ignition module.
And the Ohms reading on pin 3 of the module to test it and does it have to externally grounded??
