Time to let her go...
I figured I'd get some oppinions from here before I decide anything.
First, the bad.
The thing is ugly. The bed has a lot of rust over the wheel wells, part of the right rear lower portion was removed at one point, and it has holes for what I assume was going to be exhaust stacks run through it (it doesn't have stacks now). The tailgate is a replacement one, but has none of the hardware except the pivot points and the chains/straps that hold it open. The front fenders have rust under where the chrome striping was, but it's not terrible. Hood has some surface rust, but none of it is too terrible. The exhaust is just the manifolds, a couple of pipes going into the cat, and then a turndown pipe on the back of that. Running-wise, the clutch pedal releases awful low (it works fine, just kind of wierd to get used to), and the tires are pretty worn on the rear, unevenly worn on the front due to weak springs throwing off the camber on the alignment. The fronts still have decent tread, just worn on the inside edge.
Now the good.
It has a strong running 460ci EFI motor, a good stout ZF S5-42 5-speed tranny, good 4:11 gears front and rear, the 4x4 works great (I used it all winter) manual locking hubs, the interior is in pretty decent shape (seat is a little worn, but not awful), the cab is in pretty much perfect shape. No rust in the cab corners that I can see, only minor surface rust on the roof from scratches, nothing rusted through. All the glass is good, all the gauges work.
I've checked on some of the online auction sites, and it looks like people are buying the ZF 4x4 tranny/xfer case for over $1k by itself, and the running 460 EFI for $900+. I am only hesitating to part this truck out for two reasons... One, the thing runs and drives great as is, and only needs a few minor things to make it a great hauler. Two, I don't really feel like having half a truck sitting in my driveway/garage for months on end.
So what do you guys think? Should I just sell it the way it is or try and part it out? Around here, even really rusty trucks like that go for around $1,500 if they run well. Parting it out I could get a lot more, but like I said earlier I really don't want it all torn apart in my driveway.
