Steering clunk - Lockup problem
97 F250LD 4x4 5.4 Automatic
1) At times when I come to a dead stop or when I take off from a dead stop I feel a little bump in the steering wheel. It does not do it at any other times except when I completely stop or start. I have checked all the steering components and everything is in good shape, I cannot find anything loose at all anywhere. It is really annoying and would really like to figure this out.
2) Seems like my lockup converter is a little out of sorts. When it goes into high gear it will immediately lockup so you get like 2 shifts just bang bang in a row. Same thing when you down shift, press the gas a little to pass and it unlocks then down shifts right together. Also when cruising and you coast just a little then start the gas again you can feel it jump up a few hundred RPMs then grab and run right. Kind of like it slips a little each time. If you just feather the gas while cruising you can feel the trans go in and out.
Well any thoughts or ideas would be a great help, I have run out of things to look at.
Thanks
