don't put them down too much I did some research when I was contemplating a 351M for a swap into my 1976. With some adjustments they could be made fairly wild.
If I were ever to swap a motor in a older ford truck (pre 1956)it would be a 351M/400 for a Ford motor.
Well so far it was the worst ford engine that we have ever owned, with the 360 ford following in a close second.
I do know you can do some stuff to make them a whole lot better then they were stock. We ended up blowing ours, got it totally professionally rebuilt, then it blew up 60,000km later.
The 360 we used to have was an unreliable dog of a motor. The truck actually ended up burning due to an electrical fire.
We replaced the 76 with the 81 with the 351m, and replace the 81 with a 86 with a 351w, and the w was miles better of a motor.
I'm shocked you didn't like the 360. I love mine in the 1975 too bad the truck body is too far gone and the C6 tranny sucks power like Monica Lueniski.
at my wifes g-parents in mullenguar area, there's a '80 ford with a 351m/400 in it. not sure which, but its sitting there because the duraspark quit... i might pull it the next time i'm up there... anyone interested??
