I am getting a high pitched noise from the bellhousing area, the noise comes and goes. When it is there and I shut off the engine it sounds like something decompressing(by that it continues after the flywheel stops turning). The dealer said it might be the pilot bearing. Also it looks like the rear main is leaking. Would it be worth it to pull the trans, clean the oil and replace the pilot. Or should I replace the clutch @ the same time?? The truck is a 2002 with 51K.

Thanks in advanced for your advice.
I might also point to the throw out bearing. Might be kinda unlikely but its possible.
If it were me, I would throw the new clutch in. That one might be still good and have plenty of life now. But I would replace and not have to do it again till much later in the vehicles life. Plus its cheap insurance.
id pull the trans and remove the clutch to inspect if you drive properly w/51k it might be bearly worn and still have 60-70% life left definitly no need to replace the presureplate at most just replace the disc
Thanks guys. I have one more question. If the rear main seal was leaking could it be allowing air to escape from the engine giving it a decompressing sound??
probobly not this decompresion sound is probobly not be coming from the belhousing at all you should lay under the truck and have someone turn the engine on and off and see if you can here where its really coming from
