Hey All,
Well heres the scope on the engine, it's an 85 302 efi with 150K miles and it is in a Bronco. This morning it was acting up quite a bit heres what happened:
First: Car started a shake, felt like a i lost a cylinder. Shake was not as viloent as it would have been if i had thrown a rod, so a rod is out of the question.
Second: Truck started to have problems shifting... i dont know where this one stems froms.
Three: Massive oil burn comming out the tailpipe
Now i would say those are rebuild systems, but here is the kicker. Before i came home i added a quart of oil. And nothing happened. No skaking, no shifting probs, no oil burn except for the residual oil. And the oil was not low or overfilled before all this started.
If anyone has any ideas please respond. This is my daily transportation so i need to make a deciosion soon. Also if anyone is in the Washington DC area and knows of a good machine shop gimme a shout.
I would have to guess your shifting problems were vacuum related, which takes us back to the engine. I agree, check compression for starters. Are you down in power (like, by one cylinder?) Maybe you broke a ring or something and have fouled the plug in that cylinder so severely, now, that it's not even firing or trying to fire, thus calming the shaking, imbalance, and blowby from the ill cylinder. (Just a thought) If you're at 150K, your '85 made it 6K longer than mine. I just got around to bolting the heads back onto my rebuild tonight.
