just make sure you buy the 4 studs to put into the new hub assy... I didnt, and they where a pain in the tail getting the old ones out and then putting them in, probably wasted a couple hours and I broke a couple tools in the process...
For anyone that is doing this job in the future...... Check you local lordco or napa... they sell these hub assemblies for about $100 less... They also have all the axle shaft seals.. I compared the part numbers on the one you get from ford and they matched identically... One seal was $40 from ford and $9 from Lordco.. Yes $9 Identical !!!! Sorry I didn't catch this post earlier to help ya save some $$$$$$$$ The only seal they didn't have at Lordco was the inner axle seal thats in by the transfer case ! Good luck guys !!
I hate to say this.... Do you have to use the Ford Hubs? I have only ever had manual hubs so I don't know a thing about the dash operated system (I was afraid of failures)
Warn hubs are amazingly better than the plastic FORD OEM hubs and cost half as much.
Dynatrac Hubs are 5 times better than Warn and they cost about the same as the factory Fords. (maybe $50 more)
It's spendy, but since I have no plans on EVER getting rid of my truck and running larger tires, it should pay off after replacing the hubs twice(parts + time to do the job)
Took us a while due to bad weather (no garage) and work but we got her done.
No more rumble and the ESOF system is working! Also, the vacuum pump doesn't run and run when I first turn the key in the morning. Still, I am going to switch over to Warn manual hubs soon. Need to build up some cash first.
For those of you that need to due this in the future, use Guzzle's instructions and don't let this intimidate you. It isn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
I did take some pics but am at work right now. I will get them up though.
Now, does anyone know the part number for the Warn hubs for our trucks?
I am glad it worked good for you. I just had mine done on friday at a friends shop. HE was a Ford mechinac for years and is now on his own. I know I could not have done it without a lift. He was swinging at it with a big hand sledge with all he had and he still had to cut the passenger side off with the torch!! We use salt up here in the winter, plus I plow snow as well. It was the best $300 I have ever spent. I bought the front end rebuild kit from Powerstrokeshop.com and it was nice. It had everything, and was probably cheaper or the same price as me going around and buying it all in town from three different places. I hope the new stuff lasts another 275k!!!
