Yes, thats the 254 for sure. I went through the change over just last spring. This spring I need to put in a new throw-out bearing in it. Not looking forward to it either. Good luck to you! Bob

Now, what you gonna do? Scrap the 254? If thats the case, is it any good, and where you live? Let me know what your doing exactly. Junk is down. Bob

Well my dad does scrap like by the trailer load so despite the fact that its down he still does it... We are in the Oklahoma City area and we just have the motor we dont really know the condition because we got it today but if we dont find somebody interested in it then the plan is to just take it to a metal yard, but we would rather see it go to use.

Oh, I see he's a scrapper. Listen, my old 254 a guy came up here to Illinois from Georgia. He gave me 100.00 bucks for it, knowing it needed rebuilt.
So, if I was you I'd at least put it in the classified section on the home page. Its down towards the bottom of the homepage. They are pretty
rare and sought after nowadays. They are a dirrect bolt in for the smaller 226 which is what is in pick-ups. The 254 was mostly only found in f600 in around 1950. Its almost identical to the 226, only the bore of the cylinder is bigger. If running good, they will out perform some of the old flat-head V-8's. I'd cover it, and see if anyone is interested. Some rebuild them. Parts
are rare, but available.
Now, if you or your dad ever runs into any old Whitehead, Barker chainsaws that pull over. Any brand that looks rebuildable let me know. I can be found at the International chainsaw collectors forum, under
arnbobold. Saws can be shipped, if drained of fluids. I'm a collector of chainsaws. Take care, Bob!

anyone know where I can get a 254. I have a 1949 F-6 with the 254 straight six, but it has a cracked block. I know this is a really rare engine and it's definitely worth fixing, but I'd rather replace it if I could.

The 254's are getting harder to find. But, you can also use the 226 from the f1 pick-ups. You will need to use the intake/exhaust, and carb. from your 254. Same engine except the piston bore size. You need that intake/exhaust for the 2-speed axle/ vacuum brakes. I done that trade on my 1950 f6, and was very satisfied. And the swap wasn't to bad, and it was my first ever shot at working on these old trucks. Good luck, Bob

Yeah, I 've heard the 226 would work just fine and I don't even think I'd notice a huge difference in power, but I'd much rather keep the 254 in there if at all possible. I can find a million 226 straight six engines, but that 254 is so difficult to find. I'm probably going to end up putting the 226 in there and see if there's any fixing the block of my 254 unless I can find a new 254

If your crack isn't to big, it is fixable. The worst part usually is getting the head bolts to come out without breaking off in the block. Usually the ones in the middle area. I've heard of blocks being drilled and filled, and running just fine.
My truck has a boom and winch mounted on it, as I use it for tree work. It doesn't get many miles on it. Just seasonal work here in Illinois. Still has the old rims on it, I just run a PM plate. 226 has enough power for what I use it for. Good luck, Bob

I have a 1949 Ford F-6 with the 254 six cylinder engine and I need a manifold for it. If you're sending your 254 to the scrap pile, sell me the manifold first. I need it real bad!

OK, thanks. If you happen to hear of anyone that has a manifold for one of these engines, let me know. Good luck with the rebuild.
