Sounds like the Webbers are the top choice, is there particular model numbers to look for to be used on the flathead.

Demon carbs now has a three bolt two barrel replacment carbs that flow over 200cfm called the demon 98. I could be wrong but I think the holley 94 and ford vaccum advance works the oposite of the more modern vacuum advances, however if you are running dual carbs the vacuum advance will not work properly anyway.

Be aware, a friend of mine who built a dune buggy about 5 yrs ago spent nearly $200 on jets/venturis for tuning ONE Weber... I don't know the whole story but that's a long ways from Holley parts prices! Their big advantage around my area is that the low-speed circuits can be tuned independently of the high-speed. At high altitudes Holleys typically run right (correct air:fuel ratio) at either low speed or high speed, but not both. Personally I am looking into Rochester metering rod type 2-barrels, or throttle body EFI. Costs are all getting comparable.

I put a call into LMC to find out what the model # is for those carbs on the kit, of course they could not tell me that today. They offered to call me back with the info so we will see. The picture I provided looks a little different than the weber carbs that I have seen. Carbs Unlimited offers the same kit. Nobody there today either.

I believe this is the carb offered on the LMC setup, Speedway and several others have offered the same.
Poke around the site lots of drool.

I wondered about this carb but the throttle shafts don't come out in the right place. This is a progressive 2 bbl. The picture on LMC etc. shows what looks like a 2bbl were both throttle plates open at the same time.

Seems to me the progressive is called a 24/36, being the primary and secondary throttle bores in mm's. I had a German Capri engine that had one. You have to have a common plenum for a progressive to work right, but actually that would be the right way to do a flathead with twin carbs. That's not how any of the manifolds are set up, tho.

I'll have to check out that Demon, good tip! (edit) Is this it? Says 350 cfm, doesn't say anything about 3-bolt or multi-pattern base: http://www.jegs.com/i/Barry+Grant/13...755536%7C10271

8BA Flathead vac advance works just like other cars. The old front-mounted units had a brake on the spinning breaker cam that somehow advanced the units.

on you typical vacuum advance the ported vacuum is located just above the throttle plate. The holley 94 has two ports one above the throttle plate and the other in the venturi tube so that the vacuum in teh line to the dist. is a combination of both. If you run dual carbs with this carb you are spliting the signal between two carburators and the advance will not work properly. Those demon carbs are pretty sweet, and cost as much as a new stromberg and is a much better carb.

Can you just run a vacuum line from one carb and plug the other?

I believe with the Ford/Holley 94's with two ports feeding one line as F6Guy says, you get the greater of the two signals. The problem when running two carbs is that at the same airflow, each carb only has half as much flow, and therefore a weaker signal at the same load.

$400 buck for a carb with no choke (yet) is pretty rich for my blood! I think I could cooty-bob a TBI setup for less.

The mallery unilite is a very good distributer, it has a mechanical advance, and so for patricks is the cheapest I have found and he includes the gear unlike everyone else.

Read it before - Read it again. It's classic good stuff. The .0940 is obviously .940.

I am puzzled by the statement:
"If you want a bit more advance (or reduced lack of as the distributor runs backwards from the typical vacuum operation) then turn the spring pins on the top of the plate with pliers."

The vacuum can on both the stock dizzy and my MSD pull the points plate against the direction of rotor rotation with increased vacuum, just like every other engine I've ever owned. Other than that, it's a good article on rebuilding 94's, but many have disputed the statement that you can properly use a stock distributor with dual carbs.
