Just wanted to know if anyone has some basic things to follow for a 302 Carb'd rebuild just to a STOCK standard. We are looking to revitalize an abused, beaten, 1983 F-150 Exporer, basically undriveable:
Current Condition:
- valve covers were clean, we were surprised
- rear seal leaking bad
- motor bog'd heavily when you stepped on it
TO DO:
- do you have to replace the rods? Rods looked o.k.
- Springs looked o.k. too, but the plastic spring guides / seals were broken on several springs. Only bought those plastic replacements so far.
- replace the trumpets? Ours look tan colored, pitted & burnt at the outer edges of the flared 'trumpet' part, a couple were black.
- pull heads (can't seem to release them from the block) I guess we have to take the block & pistons in to a professional shop...right?
Then can we do all the seals, do all the fluids & slap it back in
or are there other things we should consider replacing or inspecting?
I would highly recommend you get a book on the subject right here on FTE in Motorhaven. They sell all the good ones that I know of. It will be $20 well spent.
