Starter help

Starter would not turn over. Even tried jump starting and shorting across the starter relay on firewall. Finally removed starter and took to auto store to test and it was ok. Re-installed and cleaned the cable connectors then the starter engaged and all was ok. Other then dirty connections what else might be the problem, could the starter armature been sitting on a dead spot?

Also, I've been online trying to find the Positive battery cable assembly for this truck but all I see are single wire systems. Mine has two large red cables (one goes to the relay and the second goes to the starter) and one small red wire coming off the battery, is this a dealer only item?

Thanks

The most common false starter problem on early 90's Fords was the spade connector on the smaller wire that goes to the starter solenoid mounted on the starter.

Best cure I've found is to squeeze it a little with a pliers, then coat both the spade and the connector with lithium grease before reattaching.

Orielly's has the battery cables. I got Motorcraft + and - cables. They had to be ordered though. You can also get them from NPD and LMC.
