Hi there.
I have just come from the annual checkup (by the goverment) and I had a to high level in the HC emissions.
Someone have any idea?
I´m going to change sparkpluggs and engine oil just to be on the safe side.
The only sign that anything is wrong is that I have irregular idle when the engine is warm, not when I start it in cold weather (below 0 degrees C)

Hi Tiwan, what engine & year of Aerostar do you have? Your rough idle is most likely due to fuel metering or feedback problem , could be dirty MAF, vacuum line leak, sticky IAC or a faulty ECT sensor. All these can be cleaned or tested.
Have you looked at a spark plug?
Aeroman.
I say give the van a complete engine tune up, new motorcraft/Autolite plugs and wires (don't use any other brand unless you want problems Auto Parts Fast at RockAuto has some of the best prices), if you have 3.0L w/distributor, replace the cap and rotor. Check the ignition timing with the spout plug removed. Make sure the spark plugs are properly tightened otherwise carbon can get in the threads. Replace the O2 sensor if it has not been done in the last 80,000 miles. Clean the MAF sensor with an approved cleaner (will require security torx bits to remove). Do not touch the element, otherwise it may break. Check for vacuum leaks and replace any soft or brittle hoses. The Engine Coolant Temp sensor may also be bad, replace with a Motorcraft sensor. Make sure the cooling system is working correctly. If that doesn't resolve the issue, let us know and we will see what we can do to help you further.
It might be as simple a fix as new plugs & wires. HC is basically unburnt fuel in the Ex gas. Need to fix it because it's also not good for your convertor(s)! (or your wallet).
Straight from Ford DCRB, you can find certain parts from Motorcraft at certain places but most of the big stuff ( Motorcraft ) is dealer only type of stuff,... very bad for personal wallets
ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch...... dang i'm glad i got a new job then... so no no to msd 8mm wires then? they do wonders for my friends civic.... well... till he bounces off the rev limiter doin a burn off and pop's one of the wires off the dizzy cap...
RockAuto also has a toll free customer service number (866-762-5288) which is staffed from 7AM to 9PM CST Mon-Fri and 8AM to 3PM on Sat and Sun. Just call if you have any questions about the MotorCraft parts listed in the catalog at Auto Parts Fast at RockAuto
Not only missfire mentioned by all before, but lean fuel:air ration cause hight CxHx emissions w/o high CO emission too. Later engines having 2 oxy sensors per bank birn all in additional cat, but yours does not.
So be sure oxy sensor and MAF are OK too, but replace plugs, wires, distributor cap (if exist, some engines have distributor less ignition system), clean MAF and be sure fuel pressure is OK.
And if CxHx emissions are higher normal after all check fuel pressure, clean ore replace injectors, check Oxy sensor, fuel pump
Hi, I did a thorough engine wash, and replaced sparkpluggs, wires and cleand the MAF sensor.
Then the emissions fell from around HC 600 ppm to a legal level about 25.
My van is now running smoother than in a long time.
Thank´s for all tips.
