Question Junk wheel adaptors

Hey guys, I'm still workin on my buddy's '56 and he has adaptors to go from small GM pattern to small Ford pattern on his truck. I had to take off the front wheel to run the A/C lines and such and I noticed that the one on the front wheel is CRACKED!! Of course they are made out of JUNK POTMETAL!!

Does someone on here know of a place he can get some that are safe? His are JUNK!!! I think they are unsafe even if they aint broke, but I definately wouldnt run them like this at all!! Please help!!!

Try Summit Racing, Jegs, or the Lug Nut King. All sell billet aluminum adapters.

Hey Terry, Jegs, Page 268, any to any in billet, 129.99 per set of 4 Trans-Dapt.
But I thought summit was same price in last month's mag.
My pal has a pair from NLK, said they were a great deal.

Terry---I will never use wheel adapters again!!! I had a 1963 1/2 galaxy 500 and it was mint. I had cragar wheels on it,and with adapters from a chevy malibu --hey I had no money then, and was in 11th grade!! anyhow--the adapters were from hurst or cragar--and they snapped and the car went over a side of the road and down a revene...I sold the car and that happened to my high-school buddy....he was pissed!!! NO MORE ADAPTERS FOR ME--THEY ARE NOT SAFE!!! Bill

Why not get wheels that fit. Adapters are not safe.

Wheels

You have several options. I know some have had a machine shop make some of steel. You could either keep one you have to use with a spare tire use only and have the correct ford/che#y wheels. (or) You could also find a universal wheel as a spare tire rim. You could take a spare steel wheel and drill the extra holes to use as a spare tire.If you only need two I would go to the machine shop, nothing like knowing they are made of quality steel. Time and/or money. chuck

I just bought a pair from a company on ebay. They are made very well and came with torque instuctions. I bought 2" extended spacers,so the lug studs on the hubs have something to bit to. I would think that anything any less thickness would not have enough meat there for the wheel to bolt to. I torqued them down to 90 ftlbs. ,and feel confident that they will hold for me.

Hey AX, I"m glad to see your back here! I was waiting for you to chime in here? I talked to the customer and decided to have the axles and rotors re-drilled at a machine shop to the correct pattern. He has plenty of metal to redrill them and it will bring the wheels in closer to the truck. Right now he's having clearance problems with the adaptors installed cause they push the wheels out 1" to allow for their thickness. I've already talked to a machinists buddy of mine and he said he'd done alot of them like this and it would be no problem at all.

Thanks guys!! Hey AX how are you doin?

Redrilling is definitely the best solution if there is enough meat in the flange.
My health is still up and down, they have put my heart back in sinus rhythm 3 times now, twice by electroshock and once with meds, but it just won't stay there, goes back into Afib in a couple weeks. Got an appointment on Monday for another EKG and to discuss my course of treatment.
Thanks for asking.

Chuck,
I hope your doctors can get that straightened out for you in a hurry. I'm sure it's no fun a a bit distressing. My prayers go out for ya.

Thanks everyone!
It's a which came first conundrum, but the afib has caused or is because my heart has become enlarged and weakened so it only pushes out ~ 1/2 the blood it should with each beat. To compensate it wants to beat twice as fast as it should. The dangers are twofold: the blood that does not get pumped out may form clots in the heart which if pumped out to the brain results in a stroke, or the heart simply can't work that hard for ever and eventually gives up. They have me on blood thinners to prevent the former and are working to get my heart to beat in a normal rhythm and speed so it can recover it's strength to reduce the risk of the latter.

Bill, you get better or fixed soon!
