C6 Direct Drum Question
I have a 75 f100 that I drag race. My c6 was previously built at a trans shop. This time I decided to do it myself. When I took it apart I noticed the direct drum had 2 snap ring grooves at the top. It appeared as if a steel had gotten into the lower groove and spun causing the two clutches against it to burn. I am fairly new at auto transmissions. I bought a 5 disc drum from PATC. It also has 2 grooves. I tore apart two spare trannys that I had laying around and neither one had two grooves. What is the purpose of this groove? Can I just weld it up and file it down to prevent future failures? Has anyone done this before?
