My check engine light keeps coming on and off repeatedly. It never stays on longer than a couple minutes. Sometimes just a couple seconds. Sometimes starting and stopping will make it go off. i have a 95 f-150 w/ 100,000 miles on it. At about 90,000 miles I had it in the shop for a complete tune up. Had him check everything. After the mechanic screwed a few things up, I took it to a ford dealership and had them run diagnostics on it. My former mechanic had put wrong plugs in , but I had that fixed. And I think they set the time with the distributor cap not set correctly, but my dad and I solved that problem. The only problem we found that we didn't fix was vaccum hose to ac under dash. There is a tinking noise under the hood that I thought was a exhaust leak because it gets louder as I accelerate. I took truck to shop and had exhaust leak(which I did have on manifold) fixed, but still makes noise.( maybe lifter?) And sometimes sitting at idle parked, usually on back fuel tank.Truck will sputter with bad idle and sometimes go dead. The other day it took three trys to get to stay started. Never happened before. Any ideas Please/
Pull the error codes from the ECC. All you need is a paperclip or piece of wire and a pen/paper.
Follow the proceedure at fordfuelinjection.com and let us know what the codes are.
If you're ticking while running I'd get the oil pressure checked with a good mechanical gauge, the gauges in these Fords are known to be...well...unreliable.
