Sub Box Question

I have a dumb question. I'm planning on building a sub box. I know that you have to go by the manufactures specs for the cubic feet. When i measure the cubic feet do i account for the sub? Or do i want the empty cubic feet. I hope this isnt confusing. Lol. Thanks in advance.

You need to calculate the volume of the box - excluding the sub.

thats not always true, I use JL audio subs and they say, " Net volumes given do not include the air volum displaced by the speaker (driver displacement). This value must be added to the net volume"
