I got a question regarding the Firestone tire recall. A good friend of mine had a 99' F-150 (4.2 2x4) with Wilderness HT's. I know the main tires under recall are the Wilderness AT's, but his tires are splitting at the same spot that the AT's are for the recall. The local Ford dealer told us that their's nothing that they can do, except tell us to go to a Firestone dealer. The Firestone dealer said that the tires would have to be paid for regardless of the recall or not because they are HT's. My question is, has anyone else had this problem with HT's and what did you do to solve it? The truck has JUST OVER 36,000 miles. We didn't notice the splitting until about 33,000 miles. Thanks.

A couple of questions: what size are these tires? how much tread depth is actually left on them? do you maintain the right air pressure? I was just wondering. I haven't seen too many of those tires make it past 30,000 miles. I've also seen many tires run underinflated, Goodyears and others, with that same type of cracking. Just something to think about.

I do know that they are 17 inch tires. Also, tire pressure is set dead on Manufacturer specifications (checked at every oil change & randomnly) plus they've been rotated every 16,000 miles. I would estimate that the tires have about another 10,000 miles left on them (provided they don't blow out by then......)
