F550??

I am looking at a 2000 F550 C&C that has 200k on it. Does anyone know how much it cost to go thru some of the wearable parts on it. I looked on direct ford parts, but they dont go over f350. I havent driven it yet, but the brakes didnt look to be in the best shape(visually) and I assume ball joints, tie rod ends are things that might need attention.

It is a 2wd 6spd. The price seems fair, but I am trying to put together a realistic budget of what a guy is going to have in it so I know where I need the price to be to make it work.

BTW: I know I can go to the parts store tomarrow and ask, just one of those deals where ideas are flying thru my head right now and I am impatient!!

I know the braking is different then the 250-350s, I drive a 00 F-450 6sp Reg Cab short bed work box grosses at 16K at work and its brakes seem weak for the truck to me.

I have a buddy that ran an 03 F550 with a nice service box on it and besides the 6.0 the brakes were the only thing he said he would improve on it. Looking at the rotors on the rear I am assuming rotors and pads are a for sure deal along with tires. I am just trying to put some numbers together at this point.

Dan will stop by in the morn and give you the answers, but like JD said brakes are different, front suspension is a little different, but I assume its a 7.3 with a ZF6 right? 4.88 rears or 4.30?

The front brakes are 15 inch, rears are 14. ball joints are the same as 250-350. rear axle is a Dana 135, most 550's have 4.88 gears. Engine, tranny, clutch etc are the same. Barney

Thanks, that answers most of my questions. I didnt know if the ball joints were different, but being the same I know what those cost. I'm goning to stop at the parts store and price the brake parts.

You must have an overdrive unit. How do you like it?

BTW Brandon, it is a 7.3, ZF6 w/ 4.88's. I only wish it was 4wd. It would make the decision much easier.

Yes, I added a US Gear dual range. Love it. I had a GearVendor unit on my 1 ton. US Gear is much beefier unit. close to the same price. much more user friendly. drops RPM by about 700.

Ball joints are the same? I thought they were a little bigger, but that was an assumption on my part.
Barney has you covered on the 550. He's done more work on his than I have done on mine.

Im almost 100 percent sure, that 250-550 ball joints are all the same in our years (99-03 4WD) When you get to the later years there could be a difference, (ie super 60 vs something else i just dont know too much about them). But im almost certain a 99 250 ball joint should fit an 03 550. Granted this is all basing it on 4wd.

EDIT: I got no idea anything about 2wds. I barely see 2wds, and never have to work on them
