Hey guys, my factory head unit finally crapped out and i am trying to install an aftermarket Sony unit in my 1994 F-250 PSD. Problem is, i cannot find the adapter harness needed. I have installed multiple units in other ford trucks the same body style as this and all had two long thin plugs - one for power connections and one for speaker connections. This truck has the connector plug for the power but in place of the speaker wires is one thick gray wire with a small square plug on the end. I can only assume it is a premium sound system with a factory amp. So is there an adapter for this type? And where can i get one? None i have found will work. Any help guys? Thanks!
My 97 PSD also has the Premium Package but i am still running the factory cd player. I really dont want to cut up any harnesses, and im sure my father (his truck) wont want to either! Is there no other solution?
well what I did was just kept the harness ends so if I wanted to I could re-connect them to return it to stock, there may be a way but I don't know of any.
I've had so many vehicles where people have hacked up the factory premium sound wiring... Always irritates me too, since I usually wind up putting it all back together eventually.
In my '91 Exploder I had a while back, it was missing the plug for the "speaker harness". I just found a wiring diagram and spliced it in myself from the aftermarket head unit I installed. Sounded decent for a $50 CD player.
I do know they sell a harness adaptor for that style of Ford radio, I just can't recall where I used to find them at. I want to say it was at a Pep Boys parts house, but that's been a long time, and they're not around these parts.
Check online and see what you can come up with. I'm sure it's out there somewhere if you just look hard enough.
