Thumbs down uhhh yeah sure

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23806107/
Maybe it doesn't mean nothing and is just a show off publicity thing but
can you say stay away!! We have been flying our stealths and other
aircraft into our pacific island bases to also do a show of force since we
have left them virtually open and abandoned since our troops are in Iraq.
We need to keep all of our options open and protect our borders no
matter the state of the world and how allied we are with anyone, USA comes
first.

big bad bombers flying over a bunch of ice

i dont think they could sustaine a war that would last longer than a week before they file for chapter 11

but im glad to see theyve boosted there mighty military powers due to increased oil revenue over the last few years, they should have dumped it into there economy, majority of the country still looks old and run down and still has similar problems they had prior to cold war

It's called a foothold and ask any ww vet what those pacific islands meant to us
and how they let us (or could have let them) run bombing into the others country.
The Marshall islands, Iwo jima, Hawaii, aleutian islands, Alaska are all needed to keep
The U.S. protected. The conditions of those countries are the exact reason why we
need to worry since it is a way to control their population and get them behind an all
out attack that could have every man woman and child out to get what they want.
Ask hitler how effective telling a population how another segment of the population is
the reason for your misery!! Can you say 6 million dead. Do a search for ground
effect vehicle and see the crazy weights those Russians could move to Alaska in a
quickness, Either people or material suport, a few of those, a couple bombers and some
ships and they would have their foothold.

I just thought of a story I read not long ago that there is the largest ever troop
movements being planned to Guam, Why? Hmmm China maybe(commies) russia
who knows(socialists) They want our Ipods I tell you ship em over and your I phone
too!! Hey frei have you noticed a decrease in the population of green tree
frogs around your place? Here the cuban tree frog which is white and really
big are out predating them and eating all their food and probably eating them
too. Why do they do that? just to move on a traveling bone? Or is it the
nature of all species to move on and populate new areas with your own kind.
I go out around sunset every night especially after a rain and kill every one
of those cuban tree frogs and I keep the brown anoles out of my screenroom
so the green anoles(native) can have a stronghold and a breeding area free
of the brown anoles that will kill a baby green anole on sight!! It's the nature
of life to spread wether it is kudzu, air potatoes, frogs, bees or humans we
are programmed to move on and conquer by force if needed.

Well that's Russia for you...back when it was still the Soviet Union, all the money went into the military while everyone else was freezing to death and living off cabbage and beets, and most of the Union was a craphole. I see nothing's changed.

MSNBC really screwed this one up.

First, this really isn't news. Russia (and former USSR) have been flying Bears just outside of our territory for over 3 decades.....both coasts. Exact numbers are classified, but targets of this type are intercepted a lot more often than you would even begin to realize.

Second, NATO does not scramble fighters to intercept targets over Alaska, that's NORAD that does this. NATO is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Alaska is not in the North Atlantic.

Third, the US Air Force does not intercept the planes, nor does the US Air Force have standby fighters for these incidents. From the radar scopes to the fighter planes, tankers and everything else needed to scramble the fighters and intercept these threats (or unidentified targets) are from the Air National Guard. These dedicated citizen airmen guard the skys, not the active duty Air Force.

Lastly, the TU-95 is not the Russian B-52. It is a turboprop airplane from about the same generation, but is not as fast and cannot fly as high as the B-52.

The news, any news, doesn't much care about facts unless it suits there needs of the day.

Just Russia's way of complaining about the new anti-missile batteries on their own front door.

Agree with ghunt and redford...not a huge story here. Stuffs been going on for years. Only difference is when we were in the Cold War with the Soviets it was reported more often on the public news. Now one gets reported by the news and before you know it, it's Cold War II. Even though our military has shrunk over the years (largley in part due to the end of the Cold War) we/they can still kick a** and our overseas locations are still highly capable of providing that front line defense against the big bad Bear.
