A nasty thud when the climate control is engaged

When the climate control gage is moved either to heat or AC a thud happens from behind the glove compartment and grows when I engage the fan. Maybe a blower motor? How do I replace the blower motor on my 02 7.3.

I found a blower motor from motorcraft for $65 but comes without the blade, a dealership item only. Do the blades go bad?

From AZ where it is warming up nicely to almost uncomfortable levels

Thanks

Nevada Max

How loud is it, when you switch from recirc air to new air the air damn closes and thuds.

That's the air dam closing, for sure. It can sometimes really be loud and startling, but it's perfectly normal.

The noise is constant without the fan engages. It increases in sound when the motor fan is increased. It is a constant bumping noise so I thought I'd remove the blower motor and check. Any instruction on how to remove the blower motor

thanks

Is it a single thud or a repeated thuds? If it repeats, then you may have a vacuum problem that is preventing the door to stay in the correct postition.

I would start looking down where it goes to your hubs.. Thats the most common place for a leak because it is exposed to all kinds of elements.. sticks, rocks, salt, gravel, etc... If you do have bad vacc hoses down there I would remove and plug all open holes to where it goes into your main wheel bearing.. If it leaks for long it will take that bearing out as well as screw up things with your climate control !!!

Usually a vacuum leak will cause the blend door to default to defrost. If your problem is intermittent, It could cause the door to open and close causing a thumping noise. If the thud only happens when the selector switch is moved from one posistion to another, then it is probably doing what it is supposed to.

Update:
Removed the blower motor housing and found the plastic fan had a quarter size hole where it was once connected to the motor. Had the plastic removed from the motor shaft bought a new fan at the dealer for $27 and fixed it after a $265 quote from the Ford Dealer.... Made my day
