My M100 flathead............

Hello again, question for yeah. On my 51 Merc P.U. flathead V-8 where on the engine do they stamp the engine serial#?
I've been told that the Merc eng was different than the ford eng.
Can anyone help out? Thanks

There are no serial numbers. Sometimes there is a date stamp on the intake surface of the block, at the pass. side rear.

Mercury trucks were in essence re-badged Ford trucks (with a few other minor trim differences and grille treatments) for the Canadaian market. they used the same running gear and engines as the Ford trucks.

the Mercury car engines were different then the Ford car engines.

There should be a plate on the top center of your firewall that has the vehicals serial, model, paint, trim and engine numbers. The Mercury engines are almost identical to the ford engines but they have a 4 inch stroke instead of a 3.75 inch stroke.

But Mercury 1/2 ton trucks don't have 255 c.i. engines, do they? (4" stroke) They are just 239 Ford engines IIRC.
