71 f100, auto tranny's, 390. Got my windshield washer pump working but wipers don't move when you push switch. Wipers work fine when you turn switch to high/low setting. Is this a switch function or something else. Thanks
pdd, Welcome to old school, when all things were not automatic, one button touch does all.
John
Sorry a little confused, is it normal for the wipers not to move when wiper switch is pushed in or should they move a few times and them stop. Sounds like switch might be bad. Thanks.
Yeap they will squirt and not move you have to turn them on if you have noticed there is not a bunch of wiring and relays on these trucks when i was a kid my dad had a 70' model I was sitting in the truck playing I pulled on the emergency flashers while they were on I happened to turn on the blinker and the radio started going on & off at the same rate as the flashers then just by chance I put my foot on the brakes knowing that the flashers would stop when you applied the brakes on these model trucks and the radio stayed on this is all being done with out a key I did this all the time after I learned it. Now that Im older and you think about it this in some way probably could of cooked the wiring harness back feeding like that sorry about running away from the topic of the washers.

Your truck is a 1971, not a 2001. The wipers do not work in conjunction with the washers, when you push the washer button.
Seems your switch is operating correctly. There were no computers in vehicles back then. You have to push it to get water to squirt and click it over to get the wipers to move. Didn't you also notice that you only have one speed.
Has 2 speeds, is there a way to hook a newer switch to get the wipers to come or is it complicated. Assuming it needs some type of timing circuit in switch so it will start/stop or separate from switch.
Time delay would be nice also but probably asking too much. Maybe a newer donor truck?
Sheesh, some people need to get into the 21st century. There are kits you can buy on fleabay to convert your wipers to delay. Or you can do what I did. I happened to have an 86 truck that wasn't going anywhere anymore. I pulled the wiper switch and delay box. I measured the length of my 70 switch and cut the 86 shaft to match. (dremel tool comes in handy) Plugged in the delay box to my existing harness and put the switch into the dash. Looks factory. Make sure you zip tie the delay box up out of the clutch pedal's way. And the wipers come on with the washer. Took maybe an hour and a half. EASY!
Really was not thinking about delay but figured if I was going to try and get push button wiper turn on might as well go for delay also.
Yea I know about the kits but would like to have factory appearance from a donor if possible. I will check into the bronco's and newer trucks to see what I can find. Thanks for the help.

When you cut the length of the shaft to fit and put on the original bezel and ****, you will have a factory look for the year of your truck. Late 70's thru the 80's switch should work if I remember. Easy upgrade.

I'am going sunday to the junkyard, thanks for the help.
The delay switch is for intermittant wipers. By turning the switch ****, you can adjust when the wipers come on in misty conditions. You'll also need more than the switch if going to a boneyard, you'll need the intermittant governor, too.
btw: Mil1ion knows exactly what FoMoCo switches and governors will work on older trucks.
How is installing intermittant wipers from a 1978/84 F100/350 or Bronco going to turn on the wipers and activate the windshield washers at the same time?
On the newer stuff, the washer switch is on a stalk mounted on the steering column...activating that turns on the wipers, too.
If I wanted to "get into the 21st Century," why would I want to drive a 43 year truck, or a 74 year old car (the age range of the old piles I own)?
These vehicles are not daily drivers, they're weekend cruisers. How many of y'all take your old rides out in rainy conditions?
Considering how most ppl drive in these conditions...the roads are slippery from oil/water mix, most ppl (at least here in LA LA Land) don't slow down in the rain, who'd wanna risk the vehicles they spent hours of labor, and big bucks fixin' them up?
I have them on my 66, by useing the 2 spd. motor from the 76 donor that I got my PS & PDB from. I don't remember where the switch came from, but as mentioned many newer trucks and vans will work with rotating switch. The cool thing it is plug and play.
