351W performance?

I am starting with a stock 351w from a 74 Mercury. Originally had 2v carb w/EGR. I replaced intake with Performer 4bbl (non EGR) and Edelbrock AFB 600CFM. Also added Moroso aircleaner with 3" element to open it up. The stock exhaust is plenty large and should flow well.
1st question, should I replace cam with larger duration?
2nd question, should I upgrade ignition with or without cam change?

I plan to run the engine as is for a year or so after the truck is finished but I know more HP and Torque will be desired.

Krosati I never thought I would see the day when I could answer a question for you.

Ok I would suggest going with a slightly larger duration to open up the rpm range. Plus you would get a little more power out of the engine. Just make sure you don't increase the lift too much otherwise you are going to end up upgrading the valve springs too.

As for the ingnition upgrade do it. Is works much better then points and you don't have to worry about it crapping out on you at the wrong point. Everyone knows I run the Crane system but some believe the Pertronics system is best. I like my Crane and that is all I am going to say on that. But even if you don't go with the cam run the ignition system upgrade. You notice a differance.

I'd replace the valve springs anyway. The matching Edelbrock Performer cam set and valve springs would be a good complement to your intake and carb.
