DCA4 question

After changing my oil cooler seals I lost most of the anti freeze and decided it was a good time to replace all of it. My question is how much DCA4 do I add back into the radiator?

Firebug,

Good question....your best bet is to get a test kit from International Dealer, test then add what kit recommends. IIRC you can overcharge the system with DCA4, which is not good either. The test is easy enough in that you dip a test strip in antifreese and after a specific time can match with colour code to see what level you are at and how many units of DCA4 additive you need. What I do is check it at least annually and also run a coolant filter. Fleetguard makes a spin on filter which discharges the DCA4 automatically as it fillters too, by the way thanks for the reminder....it's due....

The formula is right on most of the bottles. I just bought a bottle from
John Deere, who by the way has great prices I think it cost me $3.45 and Napa gets almost $8.00.

If ya go to a truck stop or a parts store that features trucks you can get antifreeze with SCA already in it.

You might want to consider flushing the system with a flush that will remove the old SCA off of the walls within as it has a tendency to build up and increases the engine temp.
