About a year ago I put a set of 245/70/16 Hankook's on the GF's Explorer and they've proved very good performers for the $$. Cant comment on durability yet, but ride, grip, and noise are all good, worlds better than the stock goodyears that were on it. Wouldn't have tried them but they got a very good writeup in the last Consumer Reports tire test, and I've been very pleased. They were only like $80 ea from discount tire direct [bit cheaper shipped than tire rack]. Sure they're more $$ now as most tires have gone up due to oil price increases.
My van is shod with Yokohama Geolandar HT's , 235/75/15 in the 6-ply "C" load rating. They have fairly low rolling resistance and are meant to be inflated to 50psi for heavy load conditions. This makes for a slightly rougher ride unloaded, but loaded the high pressure tires make the van much more stable. Gas mileage is also better than with softer low pressure 4-ply tires. I've put about 40k miles on them in the past 5 years and they still have over 50% of their tread left.
I have the Hankook's and I like them.
the traction in the rain is very good.
the traction in the snow was very good.
They are quiet, but I can't comment on the durability yet only have 12,000 mi.
