I said I wasn't going to post here again. I've changed my mind

TK trannies are a thing that people trash, they grab another out of a yet to be destroyed truck, roll on until it dies, and bag another.

Obviously the supply for 2.3 litre trucks must dwindle away to nothing...

I WORK in a transmission shop now.
(he says, quietly)

My first project in the learning process will be restoring or upgrading the TK out of my own truck. (We learn best from our own wheels, and I have a mentor who has been doing this for years)

I intend to photodocument this as it goes along.

I don't know yet how all of this will come out - but I do know what killed that tranny.

Excessive wear on the shift forks allowed one of the shift rails to move far enough forward that a steel pin blocked it from retracting.

I also know of some upgrades to prevent it from ever happening again.

I have no idea how I will post all of this, but if you want to see this I will for sure place a link that allows you to follow all of this action.

So far it looks like at least $250.oo for parts.

But the end result is NEW, not used.

I'm talking about a by the book end-to-end TK M50 D trans rebuild here, and the price tag.

Can you dig it?

I HAVE TO remember to pack my digi-cam to work tomorrow. A lot will happen on lunch break.

ALL of the first part will be about what happened to it, the various parts that were destroyed. We already know why. Run it out of fluid and THIS HAPPENS.

*I will also show IN PICTURES what you can do to prevent most fluid losses. Believe it or not, that's the least expensive part of it.

Second will be what can be done about it at "REAL" prices.

Third phase depends on how fast I can schedule the cash for what needs replacing.

Phase four will be the rebuild/re-installation of new stuff, and how it is done.

Okay? I think we're together on this, right?
