I cant seem to figure out why im getting death wobble with only 35s on my 96 f 250.the tires are balanced.when I hit a pot hole my tires will keep shaking and so does the steering wheel until I put the brakes on to stop it.it has a straight axle conversion with king pins..i put on a new tie rod assembly connecting tie rod and right tie rod and its still doing it.i put the stock tires on and it does it with those toand those are balanced.im not sure why the the heck evertime i hit a hole in the road my steering and my wheels shake like crazy until I step on the brakes.anyone?
Has got to be leafs right? This one should be pretty easy.
Did you perform a shackle reversal? Is the shackle still at the front of the leaf?
Did you install a trac bar back in the thing if you did not perform a shackle reverse?
For some reason these trucks wobble like crazy if the stock front swing shackle is left alone, and not converted, and the trac bar is left out.
I agree with 75F350. If you reused the origional leaf springs and shackels that were with the TTB.
You need to perform a shackel reversal or add a trac bar.
X whatever on the shackles. Fords stock shackle setup allows lateral movement to a point to accomedate for the arc of movement from the ttb. If this isn't the issue, then I would look towards the kingpin preload springs. If the axle isn't rebuilt, it may be time for new ones, or if they are new, you may have to shim them some. I wouldn't think this is the problem though, since it did it with the stock sized tires also.
nope it does not have a shackle reverse and yes it has the track bar with new bushings.the king pins are about a year old maybe a little older.as far as the axles im guessing there from 89 the year of the axle but im not really sure since i bought it used.it has leafs not coils.
my white truck was getting DW real bad with 33 BFG k/m's and i couldnt figure out what it was. i tore the truck apart trying to fix it. finally came across some posts over on pirate about sliding 3 or 4 bumper washers on top of the KP spring to tighten it up. well it fixed it immediately. never had the first problem after that even after all my mods... 39 iroks, skyjacker lift springs, homemade shackle reversal and no trac bar. this was on a 1988 D60 KP dually front.
I had the same problem on my 80 F-350 that believe it or not had a D50 TTB, I swapped it out for a new set of 4 inch springs and a D44 strait axle. After I got it done and got the steering cobbled up I took it down the road and I hit a bump it felt like the front end was coming out. It's happened to me once and I don't know what caused it.

ok so all i gotta do is get 3 or 4 bumper washers and put them on top of the king pins to tighten them up?i didnt see a pic on the link of the washers on top of the king pins..what size are bumper washers anyway?where do i buy bumper washers for this?im sure that have to be the right size correct?
ive had this same sorta problem with my 91 f350 with 38.5" tires, but mine would just get a real bad wobble to the point it was undriveable around 40ish, speed up to like 50 and it was driveable but still shaky, but trying to cruise at 40ish was horrible!! had to drive under 40 or above 50,lol! i got the truck used it has 6" susp lift and 3" body, i put 285/75/16's on and the problem went rite away, i dont think the 38's are balanced and im gonna get them balanced and see what happens, but whats the deal with these " king pins" im new to lifted trucks and all how do i check to see if thats bad and were are they at?? but would i have a king pin or any other susp issue if i can drive fine with stock size tires and just not the big tires or sound like a balancing issue??

87 you have a balancing problem fordinmudd has a king pin problem....most places dont have the right maachine to balance such big tires.I take mine to a place where they balance big dump truck tires they use stick on weights and it works well..i had the clip on weights on before and they were really bad..look for a place they balance big truck tires.
