Question Gasket Adhesive question ?

Well it's been awhile since posted. I've been rebuilding my 223,6cyl. for my 1955 panel truck. I'm almost ready to put the head back on and wondered what you guys have used as the sealant on the head gasket. I've got a metal Fel-Pro and they say to use Proline brand adhesive. I don't see that brand carried in parts shops. I do have Loctite brand Copper Hi-temp gasket adhesive, is this good or correct? The other guestion is blue loctite or a sealant or anti-sieze the best to use on head bolt threads? Thanks

Do you mean a FelPro composition gasket with metal cylinder seal rings ("fire rings")? I don't think anything is really required, but I've never done a 223 specifically.

First off I've never rebuilt a 223, but have done lots of other engines. If he gasket maker says to use an adhesive, I would spray a light layer of Coppercoat on it.
Head bolts need to be lubed to reduce friction when torqueing. If the bolt hole is all the way thru to the water jacket, I coat the threads with either liquid Coppercoat or RTV silicone. Otherwise I lubed the threads and the underside of the bolt head with motor oil or a moly lube. Also I lube main bolts and rod bolts/nuts before torqueing.

I used the spray copper on my 55 V8. Worked fine.

Some FelPro (and other) gaskets are coated with a teflon-like substance to allow them to slide as the engine heats/cools. These are usually blue. Check FelPro's website or the instructions that came with the set. Using a coating may interfere with the teflon.
