I've got a 75 Bronco, and was talking to a guy about buying a 351w from him, so we went and looked at his engine.
The engine is in a 1983 F-250 4x4 with automatic transmission.
While I was looking at it, I noticed it has a fixed distributor that has a tag saying something about not moving it, or it is fixed and won't move etc.
The carb is a Holley 2v. The guy told me the engine fires the cylinders twice, once on the compression and also on the exhaust stroke.
So my questions are:
How does the distributor advance?
Can this engine be easily swapped for my 302 in the sense that I can put a decent intake on it, and an adjustable distributor?
Also, what type of trans is it likely to have? AOD? E4OD?
thanks;
tom
it is more than likely the feedback system with a vv carb. It is actually a crank-triggered sytem., no pick up in the distributor You can use the engine, just have to get rid of that crap and put a normal ignition system in it. if it's an o/d its an AOD, e4od is computer controlled and not found till later models (would have an o/d button on the shifter.
Thanks ARchion; since i posted i've been doing some searching, and ran across 'EEC' ignition. Is this what you'r describing?
So, if the engine is good, I can ditch the smog crap, put in a decent intake and carb and vaccume advance distributor?
Then later can I convert this same engine to EFI without pulling it?
