Squeal the tires?

Got a new to me '00 Excursion, V10 4x4 with 4.30 LS gears off Ebay. Had never driven an X. Shouldn't it be able to at least get a little squeal of the tires when you tromp on the gas? That much HP, torque and low gears.

It does the same thing my '01 Supercrew 5.4, 4x4, 3.55 LS and 17" tires does, bogs down and then slowly takes off.

Does the computer do this instead of letting them surge forward or spin the tires?

guess i haven't tried a brake stand.

suppose the question is pretty stupid anyway. maybe i should have phrased it as 'are Ford's computer controlled to be dogs off the line?'

Test drove Tahoe, Suburban, and Durango. They all at least chirp the tires. Expedition, Excursion and F150 don't. Just seems odd.

I think a lot of IS Ford PCM programming. I can't really say for 100% certainty, but I've experienced the same thing with my 04 F-150, 03 Expy and my 05 Excursion. You gotta do a brake stand to break the tires loose.

Ive done it before, with the break stand. Made like an 8 foot burnout, but I got a 6.0L PSD I think it has more torqe.

I got a decent chirp (more like a short spin) one evening from a dead stop with just a stomp on the pedal. Some guy stopped in front of me at an intersection and I almost missed the light. Really didn't expect it, but it was nice.

BTW, V10 with 3.73 non LS.

Not saying flooring it is something that would be done often, if at all, but when the math says a vehicle should be able to bark the tires and it can't I like to know why.

I've got the opposite problem. I have to be real careful, particularly on wet roads, to use a light foot. Mine likes to break traction on the white stop bar on the pavement when accelerating from stop lights and the rear end can break loose fairly easily with moderate acceleration in turns. I replaced the BF Goodrich Wrangler A/T's with Michelin M/S which has made it much better, but I still have to be gentle with it. It can also spin the tires without any problem on dry pavement from a dead stop, although I don't do it deliberately. I've got 3:73 gears and a 7.3 PSD that's programmed to level 2 with a Hypertech programmer.

I have to agree with VA Sheriff, "why would you want to?". If it gets you down the road safely with plenty of passing and towing power then I'm a happy camper. That's a lot of unnecessary torque on the driveline when you try to spin the tires on a 4 ton vehicle.

That V10 is a hoss of an engine and will serve you well.

Correct. Especially since the transmission is a weak spot in the first place.
