Just 2 days ago, there was this discharge under the rear axle. Turns out, it was from the open hose which leads from the rear axle housing. A bunch of sludge came out. Kind of a bunch came out. This is new for me and I wondered if this was ok or if something else is wrong? Thanks.
have you been muddin lately or driven through any deep water? when was the last time you changed the diff fluid. Sounds like it is time. A couple of quarts of diff fluid and a tube of rtv will give you piece of mind.
The hose was probubly clogged with dirt. When the temp went up, the pressure blew it out. If it's been awhile, I would change the diff oil. Make sure the vent hose is clear.
Let me ask you, is it easy to change the diff oil?

Determine if it is a limited slip differential and purchase accordingly. LS requires friction modifier (stinks a lot) added to the grease. I get it at Ford. Just crawl under and remove rear cover. Clean the sealing surfaces good, wipe out the inside. Apply a bead of RTV per Haynes diagram, let it set per instructions on the tube. Reinstall cover, but do not be in a hurry to refill to let the RTV set more. Fill per capacity in your owner manual. I use a good brand of grease, some prefer synthetic.
