Well, it looks like it's getting to be time to park the PSD more often and use the wife's econo box for running around.
I filled up this morning and it cost $106. Diesel in New Jersey is now $3.95 a gallon - a full $0.94 more than unleaded regular. At this rate I wouldn't be surprised to see $4.50 - $4.75 by mid summer.
All of the arguments about diesel getting better fuel economy than gasoline don't mean much when diesel is 23% more expensive than gas. This is nuts!

I am doing a partial park, last three weekends the PSD has sat in the drive and I use my wife's car. She works during the week so I am forced to use the truck when I have to go somewhere, even though I will hold off and go in the evening when she gets home, if possible. Like I said in a previous post, my 2008 will have some pretty low miles when I get ready to sell.
Yeah but if you see 23% better fuel mileage in your diesel , than say, a V10 gasser, it evens out. Fill up more with a V10 gasserr, or take it right in the kisser and fill up less with the diesel. Its all relative. Glass half full, Glass half empty?
My wifes jetta avgs 43 MPG , Everyone says, "When are you gonna get rid of that thing with the price of diesel being so high?" These people do not get it. These are the people that think they are making a difference in their Fuel Freindly SUV. Isnt that an oxy moron anyway? Sometimes you have to spend a little money to save a lot.

I filled up the car in Charlotte, Michigan yesterday for $3.09, diesel all around Battle Creek area is $4.19. Amazing, $1.10 difference.
I have been driving my 95 f150 a lot more these days. It gets the same around town mpg as the PSD but at $0.80 less per gallon, it makes a big difference.
I agree. not hard for me to justify something cheaper to ride to work at this price. I stumbled upon this bike while at the ford dealer and bought it last week. I will say that it was a cold ride into work this morning at 29F. I'm hoping for 45 mpg on this for my daily commute instead of the 15-16 that i get in the truck.

3.90 Down South...I have 3 Diesel trucks all ford 7.3's....The waiting game has put Me driving My 2005 Jeep Liberty (4 cylinder 6 spd standard)...I cant drive My trucks for My pleasure at this time ..I can only use them to work with! You think someone out there in office would try to fix this .
Diesel here in the Chicago land area is pretty high. I just filled up my truck at $4.42 a gallon. Cost me $150.00 to fill up. Getting pretty sad. Guess I will have to do the same as sourbeer and get the bike out pretty soon. Hate to park the truck, but it is ridiculous here in Chicago. I am getting about 20-22 mpg, so it's not as bad as some.
Most of my driving during the week is city street and I'm averaging 13.2 mpg. On the weekends with more highway driving it gets up to 15 mpg. My wife's Honda CRV gets 22 mpg. Not a hard decision.
I see all of the posts where people claim they're getting 20+ mpg on their PSD's. Maybe it's the lower quality of the fuel in the northeast, but the best I've EVER gotten was 19 mpg on the thruway, hour after hour continuously on cruise control.
I am a girl, and I don't beat on the truck too bad. I try to give her a run for her money about once a week to every two weeks. I only get the straight 100% diesel, I switched from the bio junk when the truck jelled up on me twice, but we had a pretty cold winter here. I go to one of the largest truck stops here in IL, so the diesel can't be that bad. I drive the truck to work everyday which is about 43 miles from home, it's a straight shot for me, and a steady 60-65 miles an hour. On the weekends is when I lose the mileage. Since the chip has been in the truck, it does get much better fuel mileage. I don't beat on it too much, unless I get the jerks who see the sticker in the back and want to race me, other than that I am just like a lot of females out there who just drive normal.
I have noticed that a lot of us with 03-04 trucks are the ones that get the best milage.I wonder if its the earlier programing or the cam profile that makes the difference.I for one am happy with the milage I get in a truck that weighs over two ton.
My Friday fill-up cost me $120.00 for 29 gallons of ULSD ($4.09.9/Gal). I'll go 410 miles on that much fuel... That's just $.293/Mile. Adding oil change costs of )$80.00/5000 miles) brings the cost/mile to $.3025/mile.
If I drive my Tracker (toy) it breaks down like this: A fill-up costs me $38.00 for 11 gallons of regular ($3.45.9/Gal). I'll go 275 miles on that much fuel... That's just $.138/Mile. Adding oil change costs of )$30.00/3000 miles) brings the cost/mile to $.148/mile.
It's 49% more economical for me to drive my tracker based on the math. It's 100% more likely that I'll be buried IN the tracker if I get in a wreck (it weighs about 1300 pounds to the trucks 8900 pounds). In fact, I can put the tracker into the bed of the truck, so that gives you and idea of its "TOY" status...
Lets look at the economy to weight ratio...
0.148/1300= 1.14 cents/pound to drive the tracker
0.293/8900= 3.3 cents/pound to drive the F250
The difference between the two is approximately my $.02... Do the math
That's a good way to figure it. I am sitting at 3 quarters of a tank right now showing 445 miles left to empty. Not sure as to how true the gauge is. Guess I will have to wait and see. I am really starting to think about either riding my Grizzly to work, or just pull the bike up from the basement. Not sure which one would be better. Mileage is not that bad, but prices here are horrible. I last heard that IL had the highest price for fuel anyways. Maybe I should just move. HAHA
