I need to know the best was to polish out my aluminum rims. They look like someone has taken acid to them, they are from Montana so I would assume it has something to do with salt and deicer put on the roads during winter. They are clear coated and you can see the stains and pitting where clear coating is peeling off. Thanks.
Mine look just like those what I think its from is the wheel weights when they rebalance them something in the material they use in the weights reacte with the chrome wheels. Just my opoinon. I hope someone knows here
That's what my stock wheels look like on my F250. I have the same idea about the wheel weights that wieckster has. I hope to find out a way to get rid of it.
Yeah.. Montana road de-icer ruined my Centerlines but the pitting didn't look like that so I think it was the wheel weights that caused the damage. Whenever I get my tires/wheels balances I always insist the shop statically balance them, that way the weights are on the inside of the wheels.
sand blast the wheels with a fine grain sand
this will remove the old finish completely
it will also slightly roughen up the surface
repaint with a good acrylic clear coat
the rougher surface will hold the new finish much better
I did it to polished al. wheels on my harley
worked great.
