Is ford just getting cheap or am i missing something??? opened my hood the other day to show off the motor in my new KING RANCH and no underhood light??? My 97 expy had a hood light and it was only a XLT what gives......
Ditto here. I have an XLT and figured I lost out by not getting a Lariat. I guess if a King Ranch doesn't have it, then thye must have quit or got cheap. Heck, it's the first vehicle I have owned without one. Never tought to look until I already had it a couple of months.
I found this past thread... https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...nderhood+light
But I thought I recalled another thread that mentioned Ford did it as a weight factor. Being already a (roughly) 6000# truck- Plus a light socket, wiring, switch and other fasteners & necessities.... But would it make all that much of a difference on your 0-60 time or whether or not you could pull that camper or boat?...
Ya my 08' F-150 dont have a hood light and I thought I got cheated also, it's an XLT package so I thought for sure it would have a hood light, would have been nice, guess the old rechargeable spot light will be in the truck for now on.
mercury switches are illegal nowadays (mercury medical thermometers too) so just find one in a junkyard or jury-rig with another type of switch & a bulb is all we can do.
...or take the mercury switch out of an old manual furnace thermostat.
thats wierd because my 06 XLT has 2 under the hood, and also one in the glove box..... ohh wait a minute.... i put them there !!! yeah, i was wondering why FORD scammed out on these items, so i installed my own.... got the hood lights from a junk yard, and then got a glove box light from radioshack.
You need to list the lights in your mods. Sounds like a neat week-end project I am going to undertake soon. I kind of like going through the pick-a-parts places anyways.
Ford's 'Ambient Light System' is a joke for the money. I have however gotten used to floor lighting in my tractor, and my 150 is awful dark so I was thinking about getting a couple of red clearance lights and mounting them under the dash on driver and passenger side. I guess I can call it Bill's Red Neck Ambient lighting system. Should cost about 5.00, 3.00 more if I want to add a switch.
