Another question 'bout my 85 f150. I had to fix my float in my tank. I used the same gasket on the lock ring since it wasn't that old and looked ok. So if I fill up, I slosh gas out a bit, so I keep it at 1/2 tank till I go back under to change the fuel sending unit in a few weeks. I put in $25 in gas, and when I left the station, had 3/4 of a tank, now I'm showing 1/2 a tank...either my float is acting up, or I'm loosing gas from evaporation???? Any thoughts?

Reason: spelling
You are not going to lose that much from evaporation. What did you do to the float in the tank? Also, when you take the tank out again, look for stains on the top front where it sits against the crossmember. You may find pinholes that are leaking. May be time for a new tank and sending unit.
Yeah I am going to change the sending unit this weekend. I took it off to fix the float in it. I'm wondering if that is the reason for the false readings...??
That's what you said before. I was wondering what you did? Replace the float? Solder a hole shut in the float? Tie another type of float on it? Another failure prone area is the wiper inside the little box on the sending unit.
The float had a pin hole, I was lazy and didn't want to spend the cash at the time on a new unit. I took the float off, drained it, and put some JB weld over it. {It's the barrel style}
I'm lucky enough to be able to pull it out without dropping the tank. With the body lift, I have just enough room. I have to replace the lock ring and gasket as well. I'm shopping tanks too, I am sure this is the original 1985 tank...I bet there is some major crud in there.
