stereo problem

I have an 05 f150. This is a great truck and i love to drive it, I am now having a problem with the stereo . At first start up it works fine, but after a 15 min ride it starts to act up. All of a sudded it will blast, for a fraction of a second, a much louder volume than normal. It does this if it is on the raido or cd. I was wondering if anyone knew what this could be, how much the parts would be, and how much of a pain it would be to fix this. Thank you in advance

needs radio,ford can exchange it or send out for repair, call dealer for cost

Check your settings on the radio and make sure to turn speed volume off

^^Right on. I was having the same problem and that's what I did. It's a nice feature, but not worth the 800$ they wanted for the new radio...

My radio's volume seems to spike occassionally when the ignition is turned off. I've been toying w/ the idea of ugrading to the audiophile radio and have seen plenty of them offered on E-Bay for $225 or less.

I'm thinking it would be a lot cheaper to get a "new" radio and install myself than to have the dealer fix the current radio.

For that price it seems like a good idea. I might go aftermarket personally, but at 90$ an hour for labor at the dealer you're on the right track...

Next time it does it, tap on the volume **** and see if it does it again. The little rheostat in there can get some dust in it, and make it screw up from time to time.

I guess if mine ever starts doing that, I'll try the speed volume first. I took the one apart in my 02 and sprayed it with contact cleaner. Worked wonders for it.
