Im putting a new woods vb in and replacing the filter and switching to mobile 1 synthetic. Do I drain the pan, replace vb and filter, and then flush rear cooler line when running through the gears? Wont it hurt the tranny running briefly without fluid?
I did the valve body and filter then replaced the fluid that came out. I then disconnected the return and pumped out three quarts at a time. I had a friend sitting on the floor holding the hose in a bucket that was marked. He would tell me when I had reached three quarts. I would shut it off and pour three more in the tube and do it all over again. That way the pan was never empty.
Yeah, once you refill the pan you just disconnect the return line right at the transmission. You are just pumping out the old fluid before it returns to the transmission. When you get a nice flow of fresh, red looking fluid you are done. You will likely sacrifice a quart or two of fluid.
When you first start, try to measure, roughly, what comes out of the pan, filter and vb. Sometimes the stick can be a little tricky to read. Then I pump out three quarts at a time, makes it much easier to track what you have replaced. Removing three will not allow the pan to go dry.
