Hey yall my dad has 98 Ranger with the 4cyl (i think its 2.3?) 5 sp, my question is when he's driving it (especially when he takes his foot of the gas and pushes in clutch to slow down, dont know if that has anything to with it though) it will start revving up but when he comes to a dead stop the engine will go back to idle. I thought it may have something to do with the throttle linkage sticking so i sprayed it with wd40, then i did it again with brake cleaner, and it seemed to stop for about a week, then it started again and we tried it again but this time it didn't work. Does anyone know what this could be? Could this be some sort of problem with the throttle linkage or maybe some sort of vaccum issue, ive also heard of the IAC's being a common problem on F150s, could this possibly be the IAC going bad? Any ideas or tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
Thanks for the response, i was reading through here some, im not usually in this section of the forum (i have a 97 F150 and dad has another 04 F150 so im more up on the fullsizes) but it seems like that may be it, thats kinda what i was thinking. Thanks again
After further research I have found that the IACV may not have to be replaced but can be cleaned out, after removal, w/ carbureator or a decarbonizing cleaner.
Thanks for the reply, we went ahead and got a new one and i put it in today, hopefully that will do the trick, looked through some stuff and that sounded like the culprit. Thanks for your help
