Clunking and vibrating
Last week I bought a 91 F250 with the 300 I6, 5 speed manual, has only 50,000 miles! Got it for $2000 from a co-workers parents. This is the first truck I have ever owned, also the first manual I have ever driven. I have had the oil changed and I have an appointment to take it into the shop on Thursday to check it out, give it a tune up, etc. The problem is I am getting a clunking noise when driving, this will usually happen when I take my foot off of the gas and reapply the gas. This usually only happens in 3rd and 4th gears. I am also getting a vibrating when in 4th gear, traveling around 35-40 mph, just cruising. Applying the gas heavier will make the truck vibrate less. I have done some searching here on the forum, and I got underneath the truck to see if the U-joints were bad. I tried to move the driveshaft around, and it did not seem to move at the back or the front. But in the middle, where the 2 shafts join there is a u-bracked attached to the frame of the truck, and the driveshaft goes through this with a rubber gasket around it. There is probably 1/8 to 1/4" of play in this either way. Could this possibly be the source of my noise? And is it a problem if it is?
I have heard these motors will run forever, so the truck will probably fall apart before the motor will die! Living in Ohio is never good for the rust!
Thanks for any help
