hi guys if any one has put a fuel injected motor (i have a 302)into one of our vintage i could use some advice. such as what did you use for a steering column? how much of the smog stuff did you remove? did you do anything special with the mounting brakets? how did you get the wiring to fit right? how did you do air conditioning?
any info is apreciated

I will be starting my fuel injection swap here real soon as the weather will begin to cooperate more often as I have to do all the work outside. I chose to use a 4.6L MOD motor with the AODE automatic overdrive transmission. I can tell you the transmission mount on the AODE is the same bolt pattern as the stock piece used on our old trucks weather you had an automatic or manual. The only difference is the bolts for our old trucks were standard threads and the AODE uses metric bolts.
I have not decided how to bolt the engine to the pickup. I did pick up a set of 2000 Mustang motor mounts as they bolt to the engine and have a stud pointing down, much like the motor mounts do on the "FE" engines. Since the transmission will mount to my cross member and with these new motor mounts I picked up I hope I can use my engine perches with little modification.
As for the steering column I plan to use the one I currently have. I put a C-6 in my 65 a few years ago so I am going to fab up a way to connect it to the AODE as it uses a cable to shift verses mechanical linkage.
At this point I am not going to run A/C so I bought the A/C elimination kit out of the Ford SVO catalog that way I can use the stock belt. I do have a condenser out of a 1973 f-100 that will bolt right up and my 4.6L came with an air compressor so once I figure out the evaporator and register part in the cab I will be set.
I am really looking forward to this swap and the challenge to modify and fab parts to get this to fit. I have the entire wire harness from the Crown Vic my engine came from so I plan to remove my entire harness and use the new harness. I have a 1973 F-100 with no engine that I plan to use as a mock up to get the engine mounts made, wiring routed and fuel lines, exhaust ect.... then swap the parts over to my 65.
I got lucky as I paid $150.00 for the engine, transmission, wiring harness, drive line, and a few other parts. I already had the 73 F-100 for other parts. This way by using the mock up I can still drive my 65.
I hope this helps to get you going with your project. I will be posting my info and pics as my project takes off. I like my old "FE" engine but I want a modern engine with fuel injection that starts good and runs good ect.....
A 5.0 EFI is a direct bolt in on 65-79 F100's. You can ditch all of the smog stuff if not needed in your state. The motor mount perches will need to be pulled from a newer model truck(thru 79) with 302/351W. They will bolt in existing holes in crossmember. Tranny crossmember will also line up to a set of existing holes. To wire in the electricals, its the same as all early Bronco, Mustang and F100 thru 79 conversions going with EFI. There is a ton of info related to this swap. I have 5.0 efi's going in my 67 Bronco, 66 Mustang and 65 F100. I am also have a 460 efi w/E4OD waiting for my 78 F250. Supercab. I am not understanding about the steering column. It isnt relevent to a motor change of any type unless your truck is 61-64 model. 65-78 columns are almost directly interchangable if you need power steering or shift linkage. The AOD will line up with stock C4-C6 linkage. The A/C will plumb in to your existing setup with some different fittings. Otherwise you need the compressor eliminator. Its nothing but a serpentine pulley on a plate replacing the compressor.
