I have a BIG alternator that came off of a ford van I think?
I don't know for sure, but its bigger then any of the other ones I have off of 351m's and 460's
I don't have any numbers off of it or even know what to look for?
but the size of it makes me think its a high amperage out put alternator?
am I totally clueless in thinking this way?
do you have any idea as to what year.ford changed to a built in regulator around 86-87.before that they basically had two alternators.the small one was a 55-65 amp and the large one was a 70-100 amp.
In the ninetys they changed to the 3g series .there was basically two styles then. The smaller was around 75 amps I think and the larger was 110 amps.
well I do not know the exact year but it came out of a newer BIG van in the high 80's
it was on a 351W with a serpentine belt system and all the smog crap etc
so more and likely its 110 amp?
I think I'll put it in my truck when I put all the off road lights on it, along with dual battery's
Couple of tjings to check.Does the alt.have a built in regulator or an external.does your truck have an external regulator .
If you truck has the external regulator and the alternator has it built in swapping them out is pretty easy .just some minor wiring changes. To go the other way is more complicated
