Question 2nd alternator?

I would like to put a 2nd alternator on my 95 f-150 5.8. The kicker is that I want to keep my ac. I was wondering if I could put it in place of my smog pump.

Any ideas?

Any particular reason for the 2nd alternator? If you need a larger alternator, just buy one. Two alternators would be overkill and just create more drag on the engine. There is some loss and bearing wear in the belt system.

I have a 200a primary alt and it is not enough to charge 2 batts and run all accessories, that is why.

I am not helping your problem much, but I am curious as to what you are running that needs all this power, and how you use it. There may be another way to solve it.

I am assuming you have a serpentine belt system? Does the smog pump run on this same belt? If so, it may work. A serpentine belt can transfer a lot of horsepower, which is what all this power is going to take. A regular v-belt starts giving out above 10hp.

I am also curious as to why you need all this power.

Hydrogen Generator? Does that mean your running Hydrogen Gas? is that just a MPG helper?

What are the symptoms or the problems you are having? I do know with all that added equipment, you will need another fuse box and upgraded wiring for those pieces. A second isolated battery may give you what you need.

Glad you mentioned the fuse box. Reminds me to pull the one out of my parts truck
and you mention a isolated battery,
I have a isolated battery in my 76 f250 4x4 ranger xlt highboy, that is for running camper accessories
I am planning on putting a lot of off road lights on my truck
and I was planning on running both battery's parallel with a 110 amp alt
what do you think on that?
sorry for the high jack but cant see starting a new thread for basically the same question

I am assuming when you put the 200 amp alternator in, you upgraded the wiring to it?
