auto meter pyro guage question

Is there such a thing as a pyro slowly quiting? It always was up to 800 to 1200 degrees depending on my power output. Then all of a sudden it started reading about half or a little less then half of what it used to. No recent mods except a 203* thermastat. I always figured it was all or nothing with these guages. Can a guy buy just the probe and not have to pay for the whole thing? The probe is probably three years old. Should I pull it out (the probe) and inspect it? Thanks, Glenn

Yep...They can fail gradually. Yes, you can buy the thermocouple seperately...and yes, pulling it out and scraping the crap of the probe sheath might correct the problem.

Pulled out the probe today and it was a little dirty but looks good. The end of the probe is tappered, I think this is normal but please chime in if not. Is there a way to test it while I have it out? I have to wait until Monday to see how much another probe is. Any body know? If they are expensive I would consider buying a whole new guage and probel

OldBird: Go to E-bay and type in #370029914664

It's an Isspro thermocoupler and should be just what your looking for:
Cost $29.95 +shipping

Rog, Thanks, do you think that will work with a auto meter gauge?

Yes they are both type "K" thermocouplers. I did some research and that thermo that he is selling, "R650AHTPL" DieselManor sells it for $63.55 as it has the weather pack connector. that is the same one that I'm using.

The price is right.
