Hey, I have a question. I need a car that gets better mileage than my F350 lol. Diesel is now up to 4.20 a gallon in the NW and I'm getting bent over at the pump. I have found a 96 Taurus that I am interested in purchasing. However, the car does have 160000 miles, and having no experience with this vehicle I was wondering what kind of mileage it will get and how long this motor/transmission will last...Any help is appreciated, thanks.
The Taurus is a low resale car that makes a great daily driver. If you can get it cheap, you can probably drive your money out of it.I have a 95 with the 3.8 eng. now at 184,000 and still going. The only thing I have done is tires(4th set),brakes(on the second brake job now)and routine oil changes.
I have a '96 Sable (mostly used as a winter car), and I wish I didn't. Overall, the Taurus/ Sable is a good car, but '96 is the first year for that particular design, and it's obvious to me they didn't get the bugs worked out. I can't begin to list all the things in my Sable that don't work, not to mention what I've spent in two years on brake lines, complete brake replacement (rotors, pads, calipers- the works), struts, ball joints, multi-function switch (turn-signal lever), fuel tank, two wiper motors, AND I think the transmission may be getting ready to let go. I hate the car, but I've got so much $ invested that I can't afford to get rid of it. My advice: look for a good '95, or a '98 or newer.
