Well for anyone who may be following my pathetic saga...(I contracted a flathead to be re-built only to find that the re-builder punctured an exhaust tube while he was torquing down the head........and now he is out of business...I wonder why....buyer beware) Shoot, I am a poster boy for the ignorant consumer. Oh well, what is done is done. Anyway I found a new
re-buildeable motor that seems intact, and the guy working on my truck intends to start working on it ASAP, but the damaged motor, it's in the truck....., well he applied some JB weld on the hole, and so far it's holding tight. Heh, I don't have any long term hopes for this patch, but if it holds for local enjoyment.......thank you, God....it's been a long time since I drove my old truck!!! Oh well, I'll keep you posted!! Happy Easter!!!
Before you do any damage to the "old" engine (with hole), any chance the pistons and rings, cam, etc. could be used in the new engine? Would keep your costs real low. I guess if the JB comes out it won't lock up the engine, just make a huge vapor trail!
JB weld is some amazing stuff...we have our radiator patched w/it on our work truck (1983 F100 w/Inline-6). Been 2 years now and the patch is still holding
I have followed and wondered. That is great news. Have a little light duty fun while you can and try to salvage the new parts for the new block as Ross said to minimize the pain from the first. Hip Hooray for the JB, always works in a pinch.
Jon
i love jb weld . cant count the "temporary" repairs made to some of my dirt track cars that held up for countless years !!!!!!!!!!!! oh yeah and enjoy the truck !!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats on being able to get it up and running! You might be pleasantly suprised and find that it will hold for quite awhile. It should give you plenty of time to find a decent block.
